This guide will tell you everything you need to know to install and set up your Jim's WordPress Child template on your website.


Instructions

In order to install Jim's WordPress child theme, first, you got to purchase and install the base theme "enfold" from ThemeForest.

After that follow the steps below:

  • Contact infotech@jims.net in order to purchase Jim's WP child theme. 
  • Register yourself an account into Jim's internal app here: https://app.internal.jims.net/register and keep your credentials in a safe place. You will get notified by email when your account is activated.
  • After you log in to Jim's app website you will find the latest versions of the child theme, theme settings, and several divisions pages structure, and layouts.
  • Download the files you need. Mandatory are:
    - The latest version of the child theme file and the theme settings.
    In this case, we will demonstrate to you, how to replicate Jim's Mowing (UK) website, so we will also download the export file from Jims mowing WordPress Pages.




  • Next, head to your WordPress Dashboard and go to Appearance → Themes. Click Add New and then Upload Theme.
    You now want to select the zip file of Jims WordPress Child Theme you’ve just downloaded.
  • Press Install Now, and WordPress will upload the theme to your site. Once that’s done, press Activate and the theme will be running on your site.




WordPress though, misleads you here: The initial theme installation process is very easy, but there's typically a lot more additional setup still to be done.

Hopefully, Jim's developers made all changes for the theme settings for you. All you have to do is extract jims-enfold-theme-settings and upload the .txt file to your child theme.

Our theme settings are now installed, but we haven't finished installation of the mowing website just yet.


We still need to import all pages, posts, menus, etc in our website.

In order to do that you will need to install WordPress import tool.

After doing that, everything we need to import to our website is done.

You will have to assign 'Home" as a page to display on your frontpage in your Jim's enfold theme options



Once you've done this, Just head to Appearance → Menus and short your menus.



That's all! 

Jim's dummy website (mowing for this case) is now up and running.
You can now start customizing everything to make the theme suit your preferences.


In case you can access your website home page, but when you try to view a single post or page, getting a 404 Not found error, don't panic.
All you have to do in order to fix this is go to settings →  Permalinks, and simply click on Save Changes button.



WARNING!

Please DO NOT EDIT Jim's child theme !!!!

Upgrading your website’s Base Enfold theme to the latest version is highly recommended, not only because it ensures you have all the latest features, but you’ll also be up-to-date with any security patches. Thought, If you need to edit Jim's child theme, you will have to create a plugin for doing so. That is because Jim's Infotech department, continuously & automatically upgrading the child theme to your website with newer versions that includes security patches and more theme elements, So if you're making changes on top of our child template, you will lose them all when we auto-update it.
